Late Arrival / Reading Day

Good evening!

     Remember that Wednesday is a two-hour delay (one of only two we have left, since we axed the rest to make up for storm days) for students, not staff. Classes will be shortened, but all after-school activities should continue as usual.

     Students in Clan Barclay will be reading all period in Language Arts; make sure you bring your books!

     Also, if anyone needs a refresher on figurative language, here is a video I posted for the class this week. Another, relating to rhyme, is below.

The Five Senses

Here is an excellent scene written by Ricky; it has vivid language and clear, if brief, descriptions.

     On a warm sunny night in mid August of 2014, the sun was just half over the horizon. The air was crisp and smelt of fresh grass. Me, Myself, and I were in a canoe, simply fishing. I felt as if my butt was made of fire ants because of the wooden bench seat in that canoe. Suddenly, my fishing pole had a slight pull or jerk, if you would, and a beautiful splash of the crystal clear natural water. I start reeling it in and boy it felt like a whale. But then I hear an eagle's call… I look up and I see it coming from 75 yards out. I frantically reel in my whale/fish. It's so close, I can see it! I get it in the canoe and its literally a bass that is 7 inches long. I was so bummed out, I threw it back and paddled back to camp.

Quiz on Tuesday!

Hello Everyone!

     On Tuesday, October 7, you will take a quiz on figurative language.  This will be designed in a similar manner to the quiz you took this Tuesday (and likely retook today!), and will cover all nine figurative language terms we have been discussing in class for the last few days.  If you cannot remember all of them, they are:

• Onomatopoeia
• Hyperbole
• Alliteration
• Idiom
• Personification
• Pun

You must know how to define each term, be able to identify them in use, and spell them correctly.  If you have any questions, look up assignment 02-06 on Google Classroom or Infinite Campus and review the list.

An Excellent Simile

Hello Everyone,

     Ziggy came up with an excellent simile on one of his assignments, and I want to share it with you all.  The assignment discussed the concept of slavery and freedom, and the life of a slave in the antebellum South.  In his words,

These slaves were treated worse than Evander Holyfield's ear during the Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield fight.
